This year the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly have introduced a White Cane Proclamation to be read and voted on in each house and is set to take place this Thursday, November 2, at 1:00 p.m.
This is exciting for a few reasons:
- Johnson’s office reached out for an Assembly representative, so that there would be a joint proclamation. Rep. David Steffen from Green Bay is the Assembly sponsor, creating a bipartisan effort.
- Several legislators from both houses and both sides of the aisle have co-signed.
- While a proclamation has no law-making authority, it is an excellent education tool within the legislature.
The Council invites you to attend the reading and vote in the Assembly at the State Capitol in Madison. While the presentation will be a very brief event, we wish to extend this opportunity to anyone that wishes to attend. As guests of the Assembly, we’ll likely be seated in the Gallery. It would be wonderful to have a sizable showing of members of the BVI community and our sighted allies in attendance.
