The Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2017! To preserve our history as we move forward, volunteers are needed to sort and organize historical files.
Volunteers will sort through paper files, separating materials into 5-year increments. Upon completion of that, volunteers will work side-by-side with someone from the Council who knows the historical value of the material.
Working with general guidelines, the pairs will determine what should be kept or discarded. It is likely the Council representative will be someone who is blind or visually impaired. The volunteer will be expected to read the material in part or in full to the Council rep to determine the value of the piece as they create a chronological history of the Council.
Special Events Volunteer
The Council hosts special events throughout the year. Occasionally, volunteers are needed as greeters and wayfinders for our visiting guests, clients or customers. A volunteer may be asked to assist at a food or beverage table.
A typical shift is 2-3 hours and requires standing for most of that time. Volunteers with a welcoming smile and willingness to mingle with guests would be ideal for this opportunity.
