The Council welcomes Kathleen Callen as the newest Program Associate. She will manage event sign-ups and logistics, keep the Council’s website up to date, and may talk with store customers and clients on the phone while working the front desk.
“I am super excited to be working at the Council because of the people,” Kathleen says. “I am happy to be surrounded by a wonderful, welcoming, and passionate group of people. I am excited to learn more about the mission and goals of the Council and to become a better advocate for others.”
Previous positions include being a Development Director for the University of Tennessee, a Financial Specialist for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Student Loans Office, and the Assistant Director for Recruitment and Outreach for the Schools of Hope AmeriCorps Project for the past several years.
Kathleen holds a Master’s degree in International Development, Social Policy and Social Development from the University of Manchester, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Integrated Liberal Studies from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
In her spare time, Kathleen loves to travel. She has been to 34 countries on five continents, all 50 states, and all but Nunavut and the Northwest Territories in Canada so far.
“Because of my background having lived in so many different places, I can bring that experience to my work,” says Kathleen. “Any time I have worked in an organization that is about social justice or human services, the more questions and past experiences you can bring to that agency, the better. It can be easy to get into a routine so I have realized that is something I can bring and share.”
Reading, watching films and volunteering are some of Kathleen’s other hobbies.
“I am excited for Kathleen to bring her warmth, reflective personality and skills to the Council,” says Denise Jess, Council CEO/Executive Director.
