Action Alert: Joint Finance Committee’s Budget Listening Sessions Taking Place Statewide

The Joint Finance Committee, which writes Wisconsin’s biennial budget bill, is holding listening sessions around the state to gather input from Wisconsin residents on the State Budget. These sessions provide an opportunity to make your voice heard in the budget process.

There are four sessions scheduled around the state:

Wednesday, April 2, at Kaukauna High School, 1701 County Road CE, Kaukauna

Friday, April 4, at the Wisconsin State Fair Park Expo Center, 640 S. 84th St., West Allis

Monday, April 28, at Hayward High School, 10320 N. Greenwood Lane, Hayward

Tuesday, April 29, at Northcentral Technical College, 1000 W. Campus Drive, Wausau

All four of the listening sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Attending a budget listening session is a valuable way to tell the Committee about your priorities, and we encourage you to do so if you are able. It can, however, be a daunting experience for people who are blind or low vision due to transportation barriers and various other obstacles. Often it takes all day for the opportunity to speak for a couple of minutes.

Fortunately, there is another, much easier way to provide comments. Instead of testifying in person, you can submit written comments via the listening session web page.

For some ideas about what to comment on, please read our recent newsletter article outlining some of the positive items in the budget proposal Governor Evers unveiled last month, and consider urging Joint Finance to keep those items in the budget.

Thank you for advocating for a more welcoming, equitable and inclusive Wisconsin!
