Got Art? We’re Looking for Artists to Feature at 2023 Gallery Night This Fall

We’re currently accepting submissions for 2023 Gallery Night, scheduled for Friday, November 3 at the Council’s building in Madison. Do you express creativity through photography, woodworking, painting, fiber arts or other art forms, or know somebody else who does? We invite all artists with vision loss to submit their work for consideration.

Last year’s Gallery Night at the Council was a smashing success. Returning to an in-person format after two years of virtual-only events, 2022 Gallery Night featured the work of eight artists from around the state working in various media, including acrylic and watercolor paint, pen and ink drawing, digital illustration and woodworking. All the artwork and artist statements for last year can be found in the Virtual Gallery on our website.

Among the pieces you will find there are two acrylic paintings by Madison artist Deb Claire. One piece, “Celestial Phoenix,” is a burst of emotion that takes shape in a golden-winged bird. Deb says expressing oneself creatively should be a priority for everyone.

“Author Brene Brown says not engaging with our creativity has a detrimental effect on us,” Deb shares. “So it’s important, regardless of our ability, to keep fulfilling our creative potential. It engages our full brain and helps to create satisfaction in life.” Deb says having her work showcased at Gallery Night provided a special kind of satisfaction. “I very much appreciate the opportunity to express my creativity in a space that invites inclusion and support!” she says. Deb hopes to submit new pieces for consideration this year.

All Gallery Night artists are welcome to sell their pieces, with 20% of proceeds retained by the Council. In addition, with artists’ permission, the work may be included in a traveling exhibit to be displayed by one or more of the Council’s partner organizations.

To be considered for Gallery Night, submit a few photos of your work via email by August 15 to BJacobson@wcblind.org. You can learn more about Gallery Night on our website.
