When a loved one passes away, many of us feel a strong desire to do what we can to continue their legacy. One way of honoring a departed loved one is by supporting a cause or organization that was important to them. If your loved one had been impacted by the Council in some way, consider making a memorial gift to ensure we are able to continue the work that was important to them.
Spring Fleming has been giving to the Council for decades, ever since her mom, Wilma Jolivette, was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa. While she used a white cane for many years, Wilma was reluctant to ask for help. Still, when Spring learned about the Council, she decided to start giving. “I decided that even if my mom wasn’t going to embrace her diagnosis, I was going to support the Council,” Spring says.
When Wilma passed away from Alzheimer’s disease earlier this year, Spring and her family made a gift to the Council in memory of her mother. “When people gave money during the memorial service, we decided to split that to give to Alzheimer’s research and to the Council, because that was also a part of her identity,” Spring says.
No matter how large or small, your memorial gift can help continue the legacy of your loved one through our work. Each person who is blind or low vision has their own unique needs, and your gift can help us provide individualized services to help them live with dignity and independence.
