Small Gifts Can Make a Big Impact with Workplace Giving

The Council is one of more than 80 nonprofits participating in Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW) workplace giving campaigns that take place each fall. Workplace giving is an easy and effective way to support the Council’s work. When an employer hosts a CSW workplace giving campaign, employees can choose to have a specific amount taken out of each paycheck to be donated to the CSW member organizations of their choice. Employees can also choose to make their gift in one lump sum if they prefer. One hundred percent of designated gifts go to the chosen organization or organizations. Even if you give just a small amount from every paycheck, your workplace gifts will add up over time and have a big impact at the Council.

If you get paid biweekly and give just $5 per paycheck, that small donation adds up to $130 over the course of the 26 paychecks you will receive by the end of the year. What starts as a small monthly gift to the Council grows into lifechanging support for people in Wisconsin who are blind or low vision.

A gift of any size to the Council gives us the stability we need to continue to grow our capacity in all of our core operations. That could mean enhancing our approach to vision services, pursuing a new advocacy goal, or finding new educational events to spread the word of the Council. This predictable income allows us to move farther along the path toward achieving our mission.

Marsha Connet has given to the Council through workplace campaigns run by her employer, Wisconsin Literacy, since 2012. “One thing I really like about the CSW workplace giving campaigns is the variety of organizations and agencies you get to learn about,” Marsha says. “There are so many small, organic groups that are doing important work to serve overlooked communities.”

If your workplace participates in a campaign through CSW, please consider supporting the Council. To find out if your employer is running a campaign, reach out to your Human Resources staff or CSW campaign coordinator.

You can learn more about workplace giving on the CSW website. And you can give through Community Shares even if your employer does not run a workplace campaign by visiting CSW’s Donate page.

And of course you can always give directly to the Council online at WCBlind.org/Donate or by contacting Development Director Debbie Rasmussen at [email protected].
