The Council is excited to announce an upcoming event, On Sight: Vision Loss Resources in Southwest Wisconsin, taking place in Dodgeville on Wednesday, October 9. The free informational event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Iowa County Health and Human Services Building, 303 West Chapel Street in Dodgeville.
The purpose of the On Sight event is essentially to bring the Council to Southwest Wisconsin to help area residents better understand our work and services. It will feature presentations on a variety of topics, including vision resources and how to access services; transportation and other public policy issues; and helpful strategies for maintaining independence. There will also be demonstrations of adaptive items from the Council’s Sharper Vision Store.
“We want to share information about important advocacy issues that affect people with vision loss and let folks know about valuable resources available to them from the Council as well as from local organizations and state agencies,” says Education and Vision Services Director Amy Wurf. “It’s really about informing people so they don’t feel they have to find everything on their own.”
In addition to the Council, representatives from the Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library and ADRC of Southwest Wisconsin will be on hand, along with Rehabilitation Specialist Chasie Willis of the Wisconsin Office for the Blind and Visually Impaired (OBVI). The event is free, and lunch will be provided to those who register in advance.
“At the Council, we believe people have the right to access information, skills and devices that allow them to live a full, independent life,” says Denise Jess, Executive Director at the Council. “As people lose their vision, they may not know what is available for helping them live better. That’s why we are so excited to connect with area individuals, their families and community service providers at this event,”
We’re grateful to ADRC of Southwest Wisconsin for hosting On Sight: Vision Loss Resources in Southwest Wisconsin, and to the generous sponsors who made the event possible—Associated Bank and an anonymous local foundation. Those who plan to attend are strongly encouraged to register for the event.
