Attention students, families and teachers: We are now accepting applications for 2026 Council Scholarships!
Every year, the Council provides scholarships for blind or low vision students who are Wisconsin residents and are enrolled in postsecondary education in the fall. Past recipients have used scholarship funds in a variety of ways to further their education. In addition to the standard costs of going to school, like tuition, books and housing, students with vision loss take on a variety of other expenses as well, such as adaptive devices, access technology and transportation.
This year for the first time, we are opening our scholarship program to both full- and half-time postsecondary students. We understand that each student’s academic journey is different, and more and more students with vision loss are taking classes on a part-time basis for a variety of reasons. Expanding eligibility to half-time students is consistent with our mission of supporting every Wisconsinite who is blind or low vision regardless of their life circumstances.
“Access to education is a key step to employment, independence and a sense of self-worth,” says Executive Director Denise Jess. “Expanding the eligibility criteria to include half-time students creates opportunities for students with diverse needs to experience the power of education.”
The application deadline for this year’s scholarships is Wednesday, March 25. You can learn more and apply at WCBlind.org/Events/Scholarships.
