If you’re still working on your New Year’s resolution of getting rid of things you no longer use, the Council may be able to help. Before throwing unused adaptive equipment in the trash or sending it to a second-hand store, consider donating it to the Council instead. The Council accepts used adaptive equipment that is in good condition and in full working order.
The Council serves people experiencing all levels of vision loss, from those who are completely blind to those whose vision is just starting to decline. We also serve people with limited income who may not be able to afford the adaptive products they need. By donating your used adaptive equipment, we can provide some of those items to people who need it.
Common types of used equipment we accept include magnifiers, flat-screen closed circuit TVs (CCTVs), adaptive kitchen products, recording devices and clocks. We are only able to accept used equipment that is clean and in full working order, and it must include all original parts, including power cords. For electronic devices, such as CCTVs, we can only accept equipment made within the last 15 years.
Donating adaptive equipment to the Council is easy. Call our office at 608-255-1166 or email us at [email protected] and tell us what you have. We’ll ask a few questions, and if we determine that we can accept the equipment, you can drop it off at our offices at 754 Williamson Street in Madison. The Council will provide you with a donation receipt for tax purposes. Your donated equipment can get a second life and help someone who is blind or low vision live with independence and dignity. Thank you for your support!
