Earlier this month, the Wisconsin chapter of the Association for Education & Rehabilitation of the Blind & Visually Impaired (WAER) honored Access Technology Specialist Jim Denham of the Council with the Omar L. Miron Award. The award is presented each year to a WAER member who has demonstrated excellence in the vision rehabilitation field. Jim received the award at WAER’s annual Collaborative Vision Conference, which took place April 30 and May 1 in Stevens Point. Presenting the award was former Council staff member Jean Kalscheur.

Jim’s work at the Council includes providing individual in-person and remote access technology training and quarterly group classes. Jim also facilitates one of the Council’s low vision support groups. In addition to his role at the Council, Jim is a member of the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Advisory Council, of which he served as chair in the past.

“I am truly honored to be receiving this award,” Jim says. “I have always been passionate about providing high quality access technology instruction to people with vision loss. When used effectively, access technology can open doors to independence and opportunity. But without proper instruction, its potential remains untapped. I am thankful to WAER for recognizing my contributions to the field of vision rehabilitation in Wisconsin.”

Congratulations, Jim!
