When someone comes to the Council for services for the first time, they often carry a variety of emotions. They may feel grief from having recently lost their vision, or anxiety about whether they’ll be able to continue doing the things they love. But thanks to the support of the people who give to the Council, we can help ease those negative emotions and provide life-changing services to anyone who needs them. As 2025 comes to a close, consider ending the year with a gift that can open the door to independence for somebody in Wisconsin who is blind or low vision. By becoming a monthly donor, you can stretch your donation dollars to give the Council year-round support while making an even greater impact.
No matter the size, a monthly gift to the Council can help someone who is blind or low vision live the life they choose. For $6 per month, your gift can buy white canes for two people who need them. $10 per month can provide someone with two hours of access technology training. And $15 per month can pay for three in-home visits by a vision rehabilitation therapist.
Ros Zeltins was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at a young age. The thought of losing her independence was daunting at first, she said, but through the support of her family and friends, Ros was able to continue working as a pharmacist for over 20 years. Ros said that discovering the Council was “like opening the door to new independence and possibilities.” She received a mobility cane to help her walk safely and bought adaptive products from the Sharper Vision Store. Now retired, Ros and her husband became monthly donors to continue supporting the Council. “We feel our gifts are used in ways that truly benefit people with vision loss,” Ros says.
In preparation for the Council’s 75th anniversary celebration in 2027, we are aiming to have 75 people show their support for our work by joining our White Cane Circle of monthly donors. Join Ros and end your year by helping us reach that goal. Your gift will provide reliable, ongoing support to fund Council programs and ensure the people we serve can continue to live full, vibrant lives.
